Zoltan Project

Flash Application, 2008

I created Zoltan the fortune teller based on real-life fortune teller machines and how they operated. Zoltan remains still and darkened until the user places the coin in the slot. After typing a question to Zoltan, he will respond by speaking based on certain keywords that he has been programmed to look for. If none are present he picks one at random and speaks a random fortune connected to the keyword. For a bit of fun, if the user touches Zoltan he will break character and respond based on where you touched at. This project was fun and interesting to me. For one it greatly expanded my skill in programming in Actionscript using objects. It was interesting to create a set of expectations for a user and also being prepared if they violated them (clicking elsewhere on the screen). I greatly enjoyed the process of creating an entertaining and sometimes unexpected interactive experience.
